Pregnancy

Movement matters if you are pregnant

Being pregnant increases your risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT). About 1 in 1,000 pregnant women develop a DVT while they are pregnant, or within about six months after giving birth.

This is partly due to the fact that pregnancy makes your blood clot more easily – the body's way of preventing too much blood loss during childbirth. In addition to this, tiredness and immobility, as well as the extra strain put on the pelvic area due to pregnancy weight all contribute to sluggish blood flow – increasing the risk of developing a DVT. You may find exercising during pregnancy a chore, but if possible, avoid long periods of immobility, such as sitting in a chair for many hours. If you are able to, get up and walk around now and then. If walking is difficult, Airogym is the perfect solution to help you effectively exercise whilst seated in comfort.
